Croeso i Dosbarth Coch
Welcome to the new school year!
Our context this term is...
The children have shared what they know about space already and have thought of lots of questions they want to answer to. The children knew that there are stars in the sky, that we live on planet earth and that to get to space astronauts use rockets.
Through our pupils voice, the children decided they wanted to make rockets out of a range of materials, therefore we started our context by making 2D rockets and practiced writing our names on these. Children have also been making rockets in our construction area.
So far we have read lots of books, watched space launches, made passports to space, used our role-play space station and counted a range of space related objects in our maths time.
We have visited techniquest where we learnt all about the different planets in the planetarium. We even got to visit the moon! Ask your child about what they learnt.
If you feel that you could contribute to our context please let us know. We will be using our outdoor classroom and mud kitchen to support our learning this half term. We may get very messy! Please provide your child with a suitable coat as they may be going outside even when it is cold or raining.
Reading books are changed every Thursday by our volunteer readers. If you can return your book each Thursday we can then change your child's book. Please sign the yellow reading record book when reading with your child. Book bags are available to purchase to keep your reading books in. If you are able to support us with listening to readers we would be very grateful! Please come and see us if you would like to help.
In Maths, we will be practicing our counting and ordering skills and forming our numbers correctly. In year 2, children will be using their estimating skills and completing missing number problems. Please remember to use your child's active learn account where their Maths homework activity will be set each week.
In Religious Education, we will be looking at the ‘Big Frieze’ and reading some well-known Gospel stories. Children will work to create their class panel for the Big Story Frieze to share with the rest of the school.
Can we remind everyone that snack money is £1 per week and can be paid termly or weekly.
All children need P.E. kit including suitable footwear to be put in a bag with their name on and left in school for the half term please. PE may take place at anytime during the week and therefore a PE must be in school at all times. They will be unable to participate in our PE lessons without the appropriate clothing.
Also can you send in a labelled water bottle for your child to ensure they remain hydrated throughout the day.
The children look very smart in their school uniforms. Please clearly label these clearly with your child's name. We wouldn't want these clothes to be misplaced.
If you have any questions or concerns we are always happy to chat at the end of the day just let us know and we will be happy to help.
Thank you for your support.
